Christine Frodl-Gottschalk (1964–2018) – In memoriam

Christine Frodl-Gottschalk passed away on 7 February 2018, aged 53, after a long period of serious illness. She was an employee of the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main from 1983 to 2017.

Fritz Funke (1920–2018) – In memoriam

Irmgard Spencker (1941–2017) – In memoriam

Irmgard Spencker died on 17 October 2017. From 1996 to 2001 she was permanent representative of the Director General of the then federal institution Die Deutsche Bibliothek in Leipzig. She worked in various positions for the Library over a total of almost 40 years.

Werner Berthold (1921–2017) – In memoriam

Werner Berthold died on 29 March 2017 in Frankfurt am Main. From 1959 to 1984 Mr Berthold was head of what is now the German Exile Archive 1933-1945 of the German National Library. Through exhibitions and publications and through his work on various committees he prompted research into the study of German-speaking exile in Germany.

Helmut Rötzsch (1923–2017) – In memoriam

Prof. Dr. Helmut Rötzsch died on 28 March 2017 in Leipzig. He was principal director and director general of the Deutsche Bücherei in Leipzig from 1961 to 1990 and significantly shaped the institution during the years of division in Germany..
