German National Library publishes Strategic Priorities 2017 to 2020

Press release:  March 2, 2017

Building on the positive experience with Strategic Priorities 2013 to 2016, the German National Library has now presented the planning of its priorities for the next four years.

The objectives for the period 2017 to 2020 adopt the same structure as the "German National Library 2025: Strategic Compass" paper which was published in September 2016. The Compass indicates the direction for the next ten years, thus looking further into the future, whereas the Strategic Priorities 2017 to 2020 reveal the medium-term objectives.

The priority goals to be pursued by the German National Library over the next few years have been subdivided into four specialised fields "Collecting & Preserving", "Recording & Distributing", "Conveying & Inspiring" and "Integrating & Organising". The Strategic Priorities provide an overview of the planned activities, assist employees in setting the right priorities in everyday routines, and serve as a basis for planning.
Additionally, the Strategic Priorities of the German National Library contain an extremely important section concerned with the prerequisites for fulfilling further goals: Section 5 – "Promoting & Facilitating" explains how employees are to be promoted and supported in the fulfilment of specialised tasks and goals through personnel, organisational and infrastructural measures.s.
