Guided Tours of the German Exile Archive 1933–1945
Exile. Experience and Testimony // Guided tour of the permanent exhibition of the German Exile Archive 1933–1945 of the German National Library // Thursday, 7 March, 18:30
Explore the new permanent exhibition "Exile. Experience and Testimony" of the German Exile Archive 1933-1945 on one of our guided tours.
What does it mean to have to go into exile? What awaits one there? Does exile ever finish? And what remains of exile? For the first time in its more than 60-year history, the German Exile Archive 1933-1945 of the German National Library has opened a permanent exhibition which focuses on these issues.
The exhibition consists exclusively of exhibits from the German Exile Archive. More than 250 original objects and documents and over 300 publications provide a multiperspective overview of exile in the period from 1933 to 1945. They also reveal how varied and individually unique the experiences of this historical exile were. It meant rupture and loss, but also a fresh start and new opportunities.
