Collections and holdings

Besides its legally stipulated collection of sheet music and sound recordings, the German Music Archive (Deutsches Musikarchiv) also houses an eminent Collection of historical sound recordings. In addition, the German Music Archive has acquired various historical reproduction devices over the years through the purchase of collectors' estates. The exhibition of the German Music Archive contains a selection of rare items which are regularly played at special events and during guided tours.

The archive of the music information centre of the Association of Composers and Musicologists of the GDR, the MIZ Collection, provides a comprehensive overview of more than forty years of GDR music history.
The Bonner Katalog lists musical performance materials which form part of the holdings of the German Music Archive but which are generally hired from musical publishers for performance.
