Automatic cataloguing

The German National Library is increasingly making use of automatic cataloguing methods. The purpose of these methods is to help cope with the rapidly increasing volume of publications.

Automatic cataloguing is being used initially for online publications (Series O of the Deutsche Nationalbibliografie). German and English publications are given at least one subject category of the Deutsche Nationalbibliografie. German online university publications are also indexed using subject headings from the Integrated Authority File (GND). In addition, manually issued subject headings and DDC numbers are taken from concurrently issued print versions.
