Gesellschaft für das Buch e.V.
The Gesellschaft für das Buch is a circle of friends and patrons of the German National Library and supports the library in the fulfilment of its complex work as central archive library and national bibliographic information centre of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The goal of the Gesellschaft für das Buch is to heighten public awareness of the importance of the German National Library and to enhance its international role as national centre for the culture of books. The organisation seeks to contribute to European intellectual and cultural life by emphasing the international character of books and the prominent role they play in the growth and preservation of cultural and intellectual understanding. It regards the book as an ideal text carrier and hence supports efforts to promote advancements in typographic, technical and financial aspects of the book.
The Gesellschaft für das Buch supports the German National Library in

- acquisitions for special collections.
The series entitled "Gesellschaft für das Buch" includes publications issued in conjunction with special occasions, events and projects as well as books devoted to specific themes.
Members of the Gesellschaft für das Buch have numerous benefits. They receive invitations to all exhibitions and events of the German National Library and the Stiftung Buchkunst with exclusive guided tours through the exhibitions and the library. Publications by the Gesellschaft für das Buch and the German National Library are complimentary for members. The work of the Gesellschaft für das Buch is funded by membership dues, donations and endowments. Its statutory organisation are the Board of Directors and the General membership Assembly. The Gesellschaft für das Buch is recognised as a non-profit organisation.
