Podcast AugenRausch

Visual arts for listeners: "AugenRausch", the new podcast by the German Museum of Books and Writing at the German National Library, was launched on 16 March 2024. The podcast focuses on images as a source of knowledge: comics, manga, picture stories, illustrations, infographics, icons – the world is full of image-based knowledge. The first episode introduces two of the best-known representatives of the comic and illustrator scene, Armin Abmeier and Rotraut Susanne Berner. More episodes are planned.

DH Call and DH Fellowships 2024

The German National Library supports academic research in the field of Digital Humanities and is therefore advertising a call for proposals for this year‘s DH Call and DH Fellowships. The DH Call is aimed at researchers who need access to our collections for their projects. Our DH Fellowships offer the opportunity to address and work on research questions relating to our catalog data for a period of three to six months.

Sächsischer Verlagspreis 2024

On 6 February, the Sächsischer Verlagspreis (Saxon Publishing Prize) for 2024 was presented in four categories at a ceremony held at the German National Library's German Museum of Books and Writing. The prizes were awarded to the publishing companies Verlag Hentrich & Hentrich, Sandstein Verlag and Poetenladen. The special prize "So geht's sächsisch" went to Edition Wannenbuch & Paperento Verlag and the children's book publisher Klett Kinderbuch Verlag. The prize was jointly established by the Saxon State Ministry of the Economy, Labour and Transport and the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism in 2018 and is awarded to independent publishing companies in order to strengthen Saxony as a centre for books and publishing.

The museum reading room of the German Museum of Books and Writing is currently hosting a small presentation on the Leipzig-based publishing company Faber & Faber. Faber & Faber was one of the companies founded in Leipzig, the city of books, following the reunification of Germany. The company initially published the "Bibliophile series" and later added first editions by 20th century German authors, fine prints, collector's items and curiosities to its catalogue. After a break from 2011 until 2018, Michael Faber began reviving the publishing company's programme in 2019. In November 2023, news of the company's insolvency rocked the trade press.
