Ordering items

from the collections of the German National Library for consultation in the reading rooms

Having found a particular work in the Catalogue, users can order it directly by clicking the link "Bereitstellung in …". The ordered items are subsequently made available at the delivery desk for consultation in one of the reading rooms.

Delivery time in Leipzig

All orders received before 14.00 are processed until 14.00 on weekdays (except Saturdays). It takes approximately 3 hours for the orders to be processed. Items ordered after 14.00 are generally available from roughly 11.00 the following morning (except Saturdays). Die Bereitstellung von Zeitschriften kann, der Aufstellung in unterschiedlichen Magazinbereichen und Gebäudeteilen geschuldet, bis zu einem Arbeitstag dauern.
Use of sound recordings on Saturdays: vinyl records, gramophone records and other non-digital media must have been ordered before Thursday 14.00..

Delivery time in Frankfurt

All orders received before 14.00 are processed at hourly intervals from 8.00 until 14.00 on weekdays (except Saturdays). It takes approximately 3 hours for the orders to be processed. Media ordered after 14.00 are generally available from roughly 11.00 the following morning (except Saturdays).

Further Instructions for Ordering

No more than 10 books may be reserved for user at one time. Books that have not been called for within one week are returned to the stacks.

Monographs which have already been loaned can be reserved. It is not possible to guarantee the provision of journals, loose-leaf works and other special materials, as they may already have been requested by other users or be required for official purposes. Please note the instructions on the order pages.

Use of the German National Library’s reading rooms requires a qualified research or professional interest.

An extensive reference library is freely accessible in the various reading rooms during opening hours; these works do not need to be ordered in advance.
