Digital Services at the German National Library

The German National Library provides a comprehensive range of Digital Services including data transfer (export), catalogue enrichment, persistent identification of online resources and long-term preservation.
The Digital Services include:

  • Deutsche Nationalbibliografie
  • New Release Service
  • Data Service
  • Data Shop
  • SRU Interface
  • OAI Interface
  • Linked Data Service
  • URN Service
  • Catalogue Enrichment with table of contents (TOC-Service)

Apart from the freely accessible catalogue catalogue the Digital Services also provides customised solutions. Individual selections such as those based on specific subjects or time periods can be obtained via online interfaces (Data Shop, SRU or OAI interface etc.) in the standard formats following initial registration by the user and authorisation (registration free of charge).
Under the business model which comes into force on 1 July 2015, all bibliographic data of the German National Library and the authority data of the Integrated Authority File (GND) will be provided free of charge and can be freely re-used under "Creative Commons Zero" (CC0 1.0) terms. By offering the metadata free of charge for unlimited re-use, the German National Library is supporting the free flow of data, especially amongst providers of bibliographic data, and is helping to realise the vision of a universally accessible "web of data". The German National Library will charge a fee for active provision of data via FTP or WWW servers.
