The Administrative Council
The administrative council decides all issues which are of fundamental or significant economic importance for the German National Library: promulgation of the statutes, determination of the budget, ratification of the director general’s report after the conclusion of the audit, issuance of rules and conditions of use, fee regulations as well as collection guidelines. The chair of the administrative council is a representative of the highest administrative authority. The administrative council is made up of two representatives from the German Bundestag, three representatives from the Federal Government, of whom two are representatives of the federal commissioner for culture and media, one representative from the German Research Foundation, three members from the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, one member each from the German Music Publishers’ Association and the Federal Association of the Phonographic Industry and one member each from the cities of Leipzig and Frankfurt am Main.
The Director General
The director general manages the regular business of the German National Library according to the resolutions and guidelines of the administrative council and the provisions of the statutes. She has one deputy each in Frankfurt and Leipzig, who supports her in her tasks.
The Advisory Committees
The advisory committee of the German National Library advises the administrative council and the director general in all pending specialist questions requiring a decision. The advisory committee is composed of up to twelve experts from the library and information science, publishing and book trade.
The advisory committee for the music archive of the German National Library advises the administrative council and director general on all special questions concerning the German Music Archive (Deutsches Musikarchiv). Its members comprise up to twelve experts from the music and record library system, music publishing and music recording industry.
