EDL - European Digital Library

Objective

Aim of the European Digital Library project was the preparation of a European Digital Library, a multilingual common access point to Europe's digital cultural material, based on The European Library. The first step was the integration of the national libraries of the remaining EU- and EFTA states into The European Library service. Besides assisting participants to become full partners of The European Library, the project focused on multilinguality and set the first steps towards the establishment of a European Metadata Registry. Furthermore it investigated (potential) digitization efforts.

Project partners

The national libraries of the Netherlands, Slovenia, Switzerland and Austria along with Eremo s.r.l., Italy, were work package leaders in this project.

The national libraries of Belgium, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Spain and Sweden were project partners as new The European Library full partners.
