META-LIB - Metadata Initiative of German Libraries

Objective

The aim of the project was to develop guidelines for the use of metadata, especially the Dublin Core Set, for the indexation of digital and digitised resources in academic libraries. German National Library took over the responsibility for the development and testing of conventions for electronic resource indexing in national bibliographies using the Dublin Core metadata (including authority files).

The project ended in January 2002. German National Library continues to be engaged in the standardisation of metadata even after the end of the project through its "Metadata" section in the Office for Library Standards (AfS). On 21 and 22 October 2002 the first metadata workshop of the AfS took place at German National Library. It was also the final workshop of the META-LIB project.
