In 1955, the collection mandate for the Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig was extended to patent publications. From that point on, the patent and interpretation publications of the GDR and the FRG were collected. In 1961, the library obtained 670,000 Reich patent publications covering the period from 1877 to 1945.
When the Bundespatentamt in 1990 introduced a new structure to its display and information points, the collection of patent publications was transferred to the Deutsche Bücherei Leipzig.
The complete collection comprises a total of 2 million patent specifications from the German Reich, GDR and FRG for the years 1877-1990 in print and microform.The stocks can be searched online via the German Patent and Trade Mark Office.
