Poster Collection
The collection of posters at the German National Library is formed around a core consisting of two World War collections initiated in 1914 and 1939.
The completed special collection of the Leipzig holdings comprises
- over 14,000 posters from World War I and public proclamations from the years 1914 -1918
- 3,000 posters, leaflets and proclamations on the November Revolution of 1918
- 5,000 posters, leaflets and proclamations from the World-War-II period
- 9,000 single-sheet prints from the years 1945 - 1949 and from the later GDR (until 1961)
The collection can be consulted in the Shoah Reading Room.
Since some of the posters are in a frail state and not yet catalogued, only limited usage is possible.
