The reading rooms in the main building of the German National Library in Leipzig will close at 14:00 due to an event. The museum reading room, the music reading room and the service area are open until 18.00. The exhibitions of the German Museum of Books and Writing will open from 10:00 to 18:00.

Frankfurt am Main: Repair work telephone system

On 2 May, the Frankfurt site of the German National Library will be unavailable by telephone from 9.30 - 11.30 due to repair work.

GND – Authority data of the Integrated Authority File and Wikimedia

  • Launched: 2010
  • Objective: Linking the authority files to Wikipedia and since 2012 increasingly to Wikidata. Right now creating a Wikibase instance hosting the GND in cooperation with Wikimedia Deutschland. This started 2019.
  • Role of the German National Library: Volunteers are offered to link GND records to the German speaking Wikipedia and increasingly to Wikidata. The linking is bidirectional. At the same time, Wikipedia volunteers are trained to correct GND records. At this moment the DNB is setting up an GND instance in Wikibase, the software that drives Wikidata too. This will pave the creation of the Semantic Web for cultural data.
  • Results: Mutual linking of the GND with Wikipedia and Wikidata as with further databases in the cultural area.
