Digitisation of German-Jewish cultural heritage

Project description

Marking 50 years of diplomatic ties between Germany and Israel, the national libraries of the two countries are taking the lead on a digitisation project in 2015.

In collaboration with the other project participants they are aiming to provide access to important primary sources and to consolidate the cultural cooperation between Germany and Israel.

German-Jewish cultural assets are to be digitised in libraries and archives in both countries and made accessible to a global audience e.g. via the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek. These assets include books held by the National Library of Israel published in German, Yiddish or Hebrew or in Hebraic script, medieval and early modern Hebrew manuscripts held in German libraries and archive material held by the National Library of Israel for the existing "Arts in Exile" virtual exhibition.
