Research with Derivatives

Project description

The pilot project “Research with Derivatives” aims to enhance the possibilities of textual research based on copyright-protected data by developing and providing access to suitable derived text formats (DTFs).

The project is divided into four key areas:

  • identifying and documenting scientific issues,
  • the legal classification of DTFs,
  • evaluating the validity of methods, and
  • the innovative realisation of DTFs.

The project culminates in a documented overview of derivatives and the methods that could be applied in the case studies considered. This overview will be subjected to legal scrutiny and offers possible solutions for the legally watertight publication of DTFs. Two pilot studies demonstrate the practical applicability of this approach and present each of the derivatives in the context of legally protected data and open-access reference corpora.
