Analysis of the publication behaviour of exiled philosophers and linkage with the GND

Project description

The project aims to gain insights into the publication behaviour of the approximately 300 exiled persons entered in the DDEP (Digital Database on Philosophy in Exile), which is currently being developed at the University of Jena and edited by Max Beck, Nicholas Coomann and Roman Yos. The DH project also addresses the question of how long these exiles were able to publish their work in Nazi Germany and how their publication behaviour changed when they emigrated. Furthermore, it traces the fates of various philosophical journals that were forced to stop publication. The findings will be used to create multiple knowledge base articles with historical classifications. Researchers are also examining how the DDEP, as an open data project, could be expediently linked with the Integrated Authority File (GND) and how the German National Library's New Release Service, for example, could be used to automatically enrich the DDEP with relevant new releases in the future. The project is predominantly based on data mining technology and uses AI in the form of a purpose-built large language model based on Llama 3.2 to perform an experimental analysis of the database.

The project was proposed and realised by Max Beck.
