Focusing on the topic of exile – the history magazine "Damals" ("Yesteryear") is published in collaboration with the German Exile Archive 1933–1945

The issue 02/2019 of the history magazine "Damals" is dedicated to the topic of exile. It was created in collaboration with the German Exile Archive 1933–1945 at the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main.

In their contribution to the magazine, Dr. Sylvia Asmus and Theresia Biehl explore "The hardships of arrival" ("Die Mühsal des Ankommens") experienced by exiled Germans in the USA. Another contribution presents the permanent exhibition "Exile. Experience and Testimony" of the German Exile Archive at the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main. Further articles in the magazine engage with the flight from Nazi Germany, remigration, and exiled Germans in the US Army.

"Damals" is available to purchase at newsstands for 6.90 Euro, copies are also available at the reception desk of the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main and Leipzig.
