In 2022 the PEN Centre of German-Speaking Writers Abroad once again awarded the OVID Prize to an outstanding individual. The award ceremony on 15 September 2022 was held in partnership with the German Exile Archive.
Ruth Weiss was honored as an »outstanding representative of the German-Jewish generation«. The civil rights activist and author had to flee into exile in South Africa, where she dedicated herself to fighting apartheid in the 1970s and 1980s. Weiss’ editor Lutz Kliche, who accompanied her on many reading tours, gave a laudatory speech in which he shared insights into her eventful life. The prize was awarded by Dr Deborah Vietor-Engländer from the PEN Centre and Dr Sylvia Asmus.
