The Museum Reading Room at the German National Library in Leipzig will close due to an event at 17:30. The exhibitions of the German Museum of Books and Writing will be open until 18:00.

“What remains?” asks the publication on the sustainability of the cultural heritage in the digital world which is to be officially presented between 17:00 and 19:00 on 25 September 2013 in the lecture hall (Vortragssaal) of the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main.

In the “Nachhaltigkeit in der Digitalen Welt” initiative, experts from memory institutions, industry and other related fields took part in intensive discussions on the challenges involved in preserving our digital cultural heritage. The results of this collaboration between Internet & Gesellschaft Co:llaboratory and nestor, the German network for long-term digital preservation, are now available in the publication “Was bleibt? Nachhaltigkeit der Kultur in der digitalen Welt”.

About the book

In 5, 20 or 100 years what will remain of the cultural and scientific works which have been stored on digital data carriers? Experts will be exploring the various aspects of sustainability and long-term digital preservation from a range of perspectives. Despite all the differences, they are united in their conviction that action needs to be taken now in order to lay solid foundations for the long-term preservation of our cultural heritage in the digital world.

The publication is being issued as a free e-book and in printed form.
