The German National Library will be closed at both locations due to a staff meeting. The exhibitions of the German Museum of Books and Writing in Leipzig will open from 10:00 to 18:00. The exhibitions of the German Exile Archive 1933-1945 in Frankfurt will be closed.

The Museum Reading Room at the German National Library in Leipzig will close due to an event at 17:30. The exhibitions of the German Museum of Books and Writing will be open until 18:00.

Ratatouille. 2025 Gutenberg Prize of the City of Leipzig goes to Anna Haifisch

12 June 2025 // The Gutenberg Prize of the City of Leipzig for 2025 will be awarded to Leipzig-based artist and illustrator Anna Haifisch. By presenting the award, the City of Leipzig is not only acknowledging the outstanding artistic quality of her work, but also Haifisch’s role as an international ambassador of the city.

Joint restitution

14 libraries and archives return books from the Raoul Fernand Jellinek-Mercedes collection

8 May 2025 // 14 German libraries and archives have returned a total of 41 books that formerly belonged to the Austrian writer Raoul Fernand Jellinek-Mercedes (1888 Algiers-1939 Baden near Vienna) in a joint act of restitution coordinated by the German National Library. After the 'annexation' of Austria in March 1938, Jellinek-Mercedes was persecuted on account of his Jewish origins. In February 1939, the strain of the repression caused him to take his own life.

New Chief Information Officer:
Wolfgang Stille assumes responsibility for digitisation

4 March 2025 // On 1 July 2025, Wolfgang Stille will take up the newly created post of Chief Information Officer (CIA) at the German National Library, thus assuming a significant part of the responsibility for the strategic further development of digitisation and information technology at the German National Library.
